About the Opportunity

Outland.Work helps small and midsize U.S. companies grow, save time and money, and execute efficiently by connecting them with talented professionals from Latin and South America. We are currently supporting a U.S.-based e-commerce client that requires an experienced Shopify Developer to improve performance, optimize user experience, and implement new features within an existing Shopify storefront.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and execution-focused Shopify Developer to support ongoing development, optimization, and technical enhancements of a live Shopify store. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on Shopify experience, understands theme customization, and can confidently implement front-end and light back-end logic within Shopify’s ecosystem. You will work closely with our team and the client to ship high-quality improvements that drive performance and revenue.

Key Responsibilities

• Shopify Theme Development: Customize and enhance Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Store Optimization: Improve site speed, UX, and conversion flows across desktop and mobile.
• Feature Implementation: Build new sections, templates, landing pages, and custom functionality.
• App Integration: Integrate and configure third-party Shopify apps; troubleshoot compatibility issues.
• Checkout & Cart Customization: Optimize cart, checkout flow, and post-purchase experiences where applicable.
• Bug Fixing & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve front-end and Shopify configuration issues.
• Collaboration: Work directly with project leads and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical execution.
• Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of customizations and implementation details.

Requirements

• Shopify Expertise: Strong experience working within Shopify (Online Store 2.0 preferred).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
• Technical Skills: Experience customizing Shopify themes and working within Shopify’s theme architecture.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with Shopify APIs and metafields.
• Technical Skills: Understanding of responsive design and performance optimization.
• Version Control: Experience with Git and structured deployment workflows.
• E-commerce Understanding: Solid understanding of product structure, collections, variants, and Shopify admin configuration.
• Testing & Debugging: Ability to test across browsers and devices and resolve UI/UX inconsistencies.
• Soft Skills: Strong written communication and comfort working in a remote, async environment.
• Soft Skills: Organized, proactive, and able to manage tasks independently.
• Availability: Freelance role with capped monthly hours (to be defined).

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with Shopify Plus features (Scripts, Flow, advanced checkout customization).
• Experience migrating themes or upgrading to Shopify 2.0.
• Familiarity with conversion rate optimization (CRO) best practices.
• Experience integrating analytics tools (GA4, Meta Pixel, etc.).
• Basic familiarity with SEO best practices for Shopify.
• Experience with Figma.
